Terms of Use for Shelfmark
Last updated: 2026-10-03
These terms govern your use of the Shelfmark app and the sync service behind it. By using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. Who we are
Shelfmark is operated by an independent developer.
Contact: [email protected].
2. Your license to the app
The app is licensed to you, not sold. When you download Shelfmark from the Apple App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to the app binary, supplemented by these terms. On Google Play, Google Play's terms of service apply alongside these terms. You may use the app on devices you own or control, for personal, non-commercial use.
3. Your account and your content
You can use Shelfmark without an account; an account is required for backup and sync. You are responsible for keeping your credentials safe. The books, libraries, tags, loans, notes, and cover images you add are yours — we claim no ownership of your content and use it only to run the service, as described in the Privacy Policy. You can export your collection at any time from Settings, and delete your account (and all of its server-side data, permanently) from Settings → Account.
4. Shelfmark Pro subscriptions and purchases
The free tier includes a limited number of books and a single library. Shelfmark Pro removes those limits, unlocking unlimited books and multiple libraries. Pro is available as:
- Annual subscription — an auto-renewable subscription billed yearly. The price is shown in the app before you buy. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your app-store account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Monthly subscription — an auto-renewable subscription billed monthly, with the same renewal and cancellation terms as the annual plan.
Purchases are processed by Apple or Google; we never see your payment details. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your device's app-store subscription settings (on iOS: Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Refunds are handled by the app stores under their policies. If a subscription lapses, your books and libraries remain viewable, searchable, and exportable — only adding books beyond the free limit and creating additional libraries are gated. Use "Restore purchases" in Settings to recover Pro on a new device.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the service to store unlawful content,
- probe, overload, or disrupt the service or its APIs,
- reverse-engineer the app except where the law permits it,
- resell or redistribute the service.
6. Book metadata
Titles, authors, and covers are retrieved from third-party catalogs (Google Books, Open Library, ISBNdb). We do not guarantee their accuracy or availability, and they remain subject to their providers' terms.
7. Disclaimers and liability
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows. Keep your own backups of anything important — the export feature exists for exactly that. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, and nothing reduces the consumer rights you hold in your country of residence.
8. Termination
You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that materially breach these terms. We may discontinue the sync service with reasonable notice; export remains available so you can take your collection with you.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be indicated by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notified in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
